Cryolipolysis (Fat Freezing)
Cryolipolysis (Fat Freezing)
Dr Martyn King | Cosmedic Skin Clinic | Staffordshire
Cryolipolysis, commonly known as fat freezing, is a non-surgical body contouring treatment that reduces stubborn pockets of fat resistant to diet and exercise. It works by precisely cooling fat cells to a temperature that causes them to break down naturally, without damaging surrounding skin or tissue.
Over time, the treated fat cells are gradually eliminated by the body’s natural metabolic processes, resulting in a more contoured and sculpted appearance.
Summary
- Procedure time: 30–60 minutes
- Downtime: Minimal (normal activities immediately)
- Discomfort: Mild to moderate during initial cooling phase
- Anaesthetic: Not required
- Onset of results: 3–4 weeks
- Peak/final results: 8–12 weeks
- Duration: Long-term fat reduction (if weight is maintained)
- Maintenance: 1–3 sessions per area depending on fat volume
Pricing
Prices vary depending on the treatment area, number of applicators used, and body composition.

💡 Final pricing is confirmed after consultation following a full body contouring assessment.
How it works
Cryolipolysis works by applying controlled cooling to targeted fat deposits beneath the skin. Fat cells are more sensitive to cold than surrounding tissues, so they crystallise and gradually undergo apoptosis (natural cell death).
Once treated, the body’s lymphatic system naturally processes and removes these damaged fat cells over several weeks. The treated fat cells do not return, making results long-lasting when combined with a stable weight and healthy lifestyle.
A specialised applicator is placed on the treatment area, which gently suctions the tissue and delivers controlled cooling for the duration of the session.
What areas can be treated
Cryolipolysis is most effective on localised fat pockets, including:
- Abdomen (upper and lower belly)
- Flanks (love handles)
- Inner thighs
- Outer thighs (“saddlebags”)
- Upper arms
- Back fat (bra line area)
- Lower back
- Submental area (double chin)
- Male chest (pseudogynecomastia)
It is not a weight-loss treatment but a body contouring procedure.
